𓆩♡𓆪 HEAVEN FELT TOO HIGH 𓆩♡𓆪 The second single from the new album is out now….I’ve mentioned previously that “Deadlights” is not a grief album, however “Heaven Felt Too High” is undoubtedly about the experience of losing my mom…wishing to reach her, talking to her out loud (specifically feeling her in the corner of my living room, where a lot of her photos resided on the book shelf)…desperately wanting to hear a response from her in the physical world, but having to be satisfied with the subtle messages she gives me through synchronicities and dreams…I didn’t always know what to say while she was still alive…and now I’m left here on Earth with all this love and nowhere to put it… There are a couple of slides here that showcase my favorite writing by my mom that I discovered after her death…she talks about how she isn’t a writer and wishes she could be, but clearly she was! I wish she would’ve believed in herself more. “And, another thing. I don’t think I could ever be a writer. I would always be in my head, lost in my own world, thinking of or trying to come up with clever characters for a story. I just did it looking in the mirror putting on make-up. With foundation covering my hand, I had to run in here and pick up this notebook to jot down those lines. The latter lines, that is. How neurotic, or fucking neurotic is what I’m really thinking. It’s a dangerous place for me - in my head. Experience has taught me this. Anger can last so long sometimes. It makes me want to do something, act out in some form, especially smoke cigs. I don’t think I have much of a fear of getting hurt anymore. This was me on a euro trip last summer, day 4 hanging out with my future husband. When my mom was in the actively dying stage, I told myself I would just go to Europe and get away for a while after she passed. But that didn’t happen. I got a big promotion at work (which I of course was grateful for!) and had to start in my new position just 3 weeks after she passed. So I spent 6 months grinding, head down, working hard until I could take that trip. I went to Athens, Chania, Malta, and Berlin. I did not at all expect to fall in love in East Berlin, but here we are. Life is totally unpredictable and AMAZING. Seriously amazing.
